Invitation

I'm coordinating a project soon for releasing Geocaching 'Travel Bugs' which will race around the world through Geocaches. This is following the success of a travel bug getting from a school in Australia to our school in just 10 months by travelling through geocaches. Do you fancy taking part?

Here are some ideas for how we could run a mass 'Travel Bug' release project.

I would like to release some travel bugs from different schools at about the same time. Please let me know if March sounds like a good timescale. All you need to do is get hold of a travel bug and get your class to decide on a 'goal' for it.

You can buy your own Travel Bug from http://www.ukgeocachers.co.uk/ or http://www.aboveandbeyond.co.uk/. If you want me to order one for you, just get in touch.

I am going to post information about the progress of our school travel bugs on http://schoolgeocachinguk.blogspot.com/.

Want some inspiration? Take a look at what this travel bug achieved.

Thanks for your interest!

What is geocaching?

This video is always worth a watch if you don't know what Geocaching is....

A few links to get you folks started.

Here are a few weblinks to get you all started.

www.geocaching.com
www.yorkshiregeocaching.co.uk – a local community who are very helpful at answering your queries.
http://www.educaching.com/ - a US based site dedicated to using geocaching in school.
http://www.gpsinformation.net/ - quite a technical site

What's this about?

I am a UK Primary School teacher, and enjoy geocaching in my spare time as well as with my class.

I was asked to speak to some teachers about how geocaching might be used in their classrooms.

Looking around, there doesn't seem to be much of this going on, so I thought I might create a place where I / others can post and share info on this subject area.

I will post any links / resources that I can on this site. Please feel free to comment and add your own resources!
